CONFLICTING IDEAS ON MUSIC AMONG INDONESIAN ISLAMIC FIGURES

This article aims 1) to describe and map the difference of views among Indonesian Islamic Figures regarding music, 2) to analyze the impact of variations in the views of Islamic Figures in the broader community and 3) to find a formula so that differences in opinions regarding the music and its influence on the public did not develop into open conflict. This study results: First, there are differences of opinion among Islamic figures about music from those who reject all types of music to those who can accept any music. Second, that differences in views among Islamic Figures do not significantly influence the public because they are not widely publicized. Third, in order to avoid the occurrence of open conflict due to differences in views of Islamic figures regarding music, each party must refrain from conceiving opinions and avoid provocation.
