An Overview on Efficacy of Chewable Tablets in Improving Oral Drug Delivery

A recent innovation in new drug delivery systems aims to improve the safety and efficacy of the therapeutic molecule by developing a dosage form that is easy to administer. Swallowing is more difficult for geriatrics, pediatrics, bedridden, crippled (dysphagia), and the mentally ill patients. The oral route is the most preferred route for drug administration, mainly because it has the greatest compliance factor in pediatrics and geriatrics. It is believed to be the most efficient and safe method of drug delivery. Tablets, delicate pills, and chewable gums are examples of chewable dose forms. “Chewable squares” is a lengthy piece of drug specialty equipment.
